Sacramento is on track to be pretty good when the team moves into its new home in Las Vegas. Yes, the city hosting a team deserves to have its name attached. Shame on you MLB for allowing the owners to just call them the Athletics. 

Sacramento has bombed its way to first place, but two games over .500 is hardly a safe perch. Sacramento is seventh in homers and fifth in team batting average (.253). Sacramento is fourth worst in stolen bases. Approach at the plate is everything and Sacramento is fourth-best in strikeout-to-walk ratio. Sacramento’s Shea Langaliers is putting up MVP numbers (.337 ave., 12 HRs, 27 RBIs). He, Carlos Cortez (.343) and Nick Kurtz (.276 8 HRs) have been great for Sacramento. Sacramento’s Colby Thomas has been great since his call up, hitting .357.

On the other hand, Lawrence Butler is hitting .179, Brent Rooker is hitting .192 and Tyler Sodersteom is hitting .196 for Sacramento. Rooker will be given time to turn it around. The other two might be on a bus headed across the Tower Bridge before they know it. 

On the mound for Sacramento, Aaron Civale (2.70 ERA) and J.T. Ginn (3.12) have been way better than expected. Luis Severino is a fourth starter as expected. Jeffrey Springs is up and down. Jacob Lopez has not been good.

The real bummer for Sacramento has been the bullpen. It’s fourth worst in Major League Baseball.. For every Scott Barlow (3.69 ERA), you have Al Leiter Jr., who’s ERA is almost higher than that of his dad Al and Uncle Mark’s ERAs combined.

Six guys are on Sacramento’s Injured List. 

Forecast: this could go any which way for Sacramento (That’s 13 if you’re counting). The youngsters could crash or keep going. The vets could recover, or might be shipped out. The bullpen can be addressed through pick-ups or the return of injured players. I’m going to be optimistic and say they keep on keeping on and Sacramento makes its way to 84 wins.
